WARDAGARDA, the feast celebrating PDO Garda oil, is back again

The 2018 edition of WardaGarda will take place on the second week-end of September. A two-day festival in Cavaion Veronese featuring a farm market with all the local specialities, wine and oil tasting sessions, cooking demonstrations and entertainment for children.

Two days to showcase all the different facets of PDO Garda oil. This is WardaGarda, an event promoted by Consorzio Olio Garda DOP with the aid of the Region Veneto and the Pro Loco association in Cavaion Veronese. WardaGarda will take place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of September in the Corte Torcolo in Cavaion Veronese, near Verona. It is the perfect opportunity to discover more about Garda quality oils in the very heart of the Garda PDO region, surrounded by acres and acres of spectacular olive groves. The first day will open with a round table on oil, tourism and agriculture. The programme of both Saturday and Sunday comprises a wide array of activities and events, first and foremost an oil-tasting session where one can also learn some basic pairing rules. There will also be cooking demonstrations of both sweet and savoury recipes, together with master butcher Bruno Bassetto, presenting his celebrated heifer steak tartare, and Manuel Marzari, master pastry chef, who will be making a cake with Garda PDO oil. And last but not least, a farm market where one can discover and purchase all the certified PDO and PGI specialities produced in our region, an art exhibition, entertainment for children, food stands offering samples of our local delicacies (care of Pro Loco) and live music. Among this year’s protagonists, for the first time there will be two wines produced by the Garda DOC Consortium.

The festival owes its name to Warda, the ancient Lombard word for fortress, from which the name Garda derives. In the past, fortresses and watchtowers were built on the hills overlooking the lake to protect the countryside, which even in those days was lined with olive groves.
