Our Garda Dop Oil was awarded first prize in the category “light fruity oil” at the “Oro del Benaco” contest, where 40 oils were examined by two juries.
The DOP Garda oil consortium is one of the most important and active organizations protecting denomination of origin, and in our opinion does an excellent job in promoting the DOP brand.
It was a great idea to merge into one what only a couple of years ago were two different contests taking place in our region, thus increasing its prestige.
During the contest, called “L’Oro del Benaco” (Benaco gold), forty extra-virgin olive oils, all produced in the environs of Lake Garda, were sampled by a panel of professional tasters. The first ten were then sampled by a jury of non-professionals, consisting of chefs, restaurateurs, oeno-gastronomic critics and consumers.
The award ceremony took place at the Caterina de’ Medici Institute in Gardone Riviera, and the catering service was provided by the Antica Cascina Restaurant in San Zago. This event closed the 2013 Valtanesi con Gusto food festival organized by the Garda DOP Oil Consortium, and consisting of 7 banquets held between November and April that highlighted the local produce.
