The didactic olive grove

“Olive trees express perpetuity, they are the symbol of peace but also of power. Their ability to regenerate seems boundless. Thanks to this, the plant species Olea europaea possesses a remarkable genetic stability. Since time immemorial, a variety of techniques have been used to propagate this plant, so it is now present in every corner of Italy, even in such extreme areas as Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino.” These are the words of Luigi Caricato in a passage from “Il Garda Oliandolo”, the book he wrote on the oil produced in the environs of Lake Garda. The author highlights the uniqueness of olive cultivation, especially in this area, which is the furthest north where this plant species is grown. These are the premises for the tour to our oil mill, where we will be happy to welcome whoever wishes to visit us. We will start from the “didactic” grove where we have planted 27 varieties of Italian olive trees so as to learn more about their features and see how they adapt to our climate. Some are typical of our region, while others come from further South: Casaliva, Favarol, Frantoio, Leccino, Taggiasca, Coratina, Dritta, Moraiolo, Pendolino, just to name a few.
