There is an old saying – and like most sayings it is full of common sense – that can help us prepare what might seem to be a quick and easy dish: a salad.

Things however are not always as easy as they seem, hence the following saying, which suggests the correct procedure: 

“A salad requires salt from the hands of a sage man,
Vinegar from those of a miser,
Oil from a generous nature
And should be mixed by a madman”.
